Even though it seems like the moon is changing shape every day like a cloud, it is always a full, whole moon. Only our view of it is different based on how much light it reflects from the sun. How much sun it gets changes because the moon rotates around the earth, and together, they rotate around the sun.
Cultures around the world and across time have been fascinated by the moon. In ancient Egypt, some people looked at the moon the way you might look at clouds. They saw it in the sky and tried to describe it as something they knew- a shape or animal. The crescent moon was often compared to bull’s horns and was thought to be very powerful because of the resemblance.
What does the moon look like to you? What do you think of when you see the moon?
